Im back!

I'm finally back after a small hiatus. After my son and daughter's birthdays and the holidays I was a bit pressed for time. Things are starting to slow down a bit now. I made my son a big birthday cake for his 4th birthday. It was my second attempt at fondant. I found out I'm not a huge fan of laying fondant on cakes. I might try it again another time. I frosted my daughter's cake for her 2nd birthday and used fondant to make decorations to apply to the frosting. It looked so much cleaner and more professional! I'm going to be making a Pokemon themed cake for my nephews 5th birthday soon. My husband is excited to help me with molding the figures out of fondant. In September of '18 I also made a cake for my husband's 30th birthday, it was a joker themed cake. I'm really getting into cooking and baking as of recent. It's fun to create something and see how it turns out and watch your progress as you improve! Definitely one thing I have learned this last year is that you can always improve your skills in anything. Don't ever believe you "can't" do something. You just have to keep working toward a goal until it happens. And usually - in my experience - you will learn how to correctly make that new recipe or how to make a craft so much faster than you thought you would. I wasn't sure if I could make a decent looking cake, but I did and I'm proud of myself. I WILL always improve myself. Whether it be cooking, baking, beauty, crafting, or even parenting, I will make positive changes as much as I can.

This was my first experience with fondant. Laying the fondant over the cake was intimidating, but I think I did an ok job. I layed the sprinkles down without using a stencil or anything to keep the sprinkles in place. Somehow it still turned out.

For my son's cake I sculpted a mini airplane and used cookie cutters as well as a metal airplane to add an accent. The kids couldn't wait to dig into the cake that day. It was a battle keeping the little hands off it! I attempted to use jimmie sprinkles to make the cake a confetti blue, but the sprinkles sank to the bottom. You learn something new everyday.

For my daughters cake I made the characters faces by hand without fondant/ cookie cutters. It was a challenge. I made the flowers with fondant cutters and I lifted the petals before they dried. I purchased the cake topper on Amazon and the candle was from my mom.

The last picture is of candy melt covered sandwich cookies. The red color was delicious! It was vanilla flavor. The pink was strawberry. I usually love strawberry, but not this particular strawberry paired with the sandwich cookies. I used silicone cupcake liners to make them. I put some candy melt into the cake liner, then the sandwich cookie, then put more candy melt over the cookie. I preferred using the cupcake liners because they gave them a more uniform look.
