Hazel Nutt's dinner! 10-7-18
So this was Hazel's dinner tonight. I made her some chicken like usual, some sour cream and chive mashed potatoes, some broccoli cheese tots, a couple of heart shaped mozzarella cheese slices and a few little gold fish pretzels. She went right after the most minute part of her dinner, the 'H' triscuit! She ate that first. I don't think she ever had those triscuits before today. It's sweet potato and onion flavor. I used the triscuit pieces to cover up the not-so-great 'H' I drew with my edible marker. I noticed that triscuits break apart into lines because they are basically shredded wheat, so I figured I could easily create an H from cracker bits.
Hazel always goes through a ritual before eating her meal where she has to touch every piece and sometimes she touches her fingers to her mouth afterward. I think it's possibly because she's curious of the new food on her plate. She was very hesitant with the mashed potatoes, but surprisingly started eating the cheese right away. She doesn't always eat mozzarella, which you would think would be every kids favorite. She loves her Monterey jack or pepper jack cheese.
As you can see in the above picture, she added a few of her goldfish pretzels from a snack earlier to her dinner. My guess is that she wants everything to be on the plate and to match. She even gets upset if her hands are messy, sticking them out for a towel to intersect and wipe them off. We always practice good hygiene in the house and we teach her about patterns. Maybe she's just picking up on healthy habits? Needless to say, she didn't eat the goldfish though. They just sat there, waiting to no avail.
Obviously I was a little disappointed in the amount she ate. She usually eats more than this and practically had a meal left. She played with the mashed potatoes but refused to try it. I even attempted to feed it to her and she acted as though I was tricking her into eating a raw piece of broccoli. She was not enthused. I ...sort of finished her chicken and mashed potatoes later. Kids can be so wasteful!
